One day, my mother was out, and my father was in charge of me. I was about two and a half years old and had just recovered from an accident.
Someone had given me a little tea set as a get-well gift, and it quickly became one of my favorite toys.
Daddy was in the living room, completely engrossed in the evening news, when I brought him a little cup of “tea,” which was actually just water.
After several cups and lots of praise for such delicious tea, my mom came home.
My dad excitedly told her to wait in the living room so she could see me bring him a cup of tea, because it was “just the cutest thing!” My mom watched as I proudly walked down the hall with a cup for Daddy and saw him drink it.
Then she said — in that knowing mom voice — “Did it ever occur to you that the only place your daughter can reach to get water is the toilet?” 🚽😂
